Rep. Kifowit Brings Sustainability and Community Engagement with Annual Shred and Recycle Day7/2/2024
Aurora, Ill. - Illinois State Representative Stephanie Kifowit is proud to announce her office’s highly anticipated 2024 Recycle & Shred Day Event, taking place on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 1677 Montgomery Road, Aurora, IL 60504.
“A clean and sustainable environment is essential for the well-being of our community,” said Rep. Kifowit. “Our annual Shred & Recycle Day not only helps protect the environment but also supports local organizations and promotes community engagement. It's the perfect opportunity for residents to do some spring cleaning and responsibly dispose of unwanted items.” The Recycle & Shred Day Event offers electronics recycling, paper shredding, and a collection of cell phones, eyeglasses, and lightly used books. Due to a change in state law, medications and sharps will not be collected this year. Instead, they can be dropped off at nearby participating pharmacies listed at medtakebackillinois.org. This annual event, sponsored by KCT Credit Union, aims to promote environmental responsibility and provide a valuable service to the community. Springfield, Ill - State Representative Stephanie Kifowit (D-Oswego) is proud to announce the passage of groundbreaking legislation aimed at easing the financial burden on disabled Veterans who need to modify their homes to accommodate their disabilities. Senate Bill 2751, which Kifowit sponsored, received unanimous support in the House, where it passed on Wednesday, May 15. The bill passed the Senate in April, where it was sponsored by State Senator Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods), and now heads to the governor for his signature.
“This legislation is a critical step in recognizing the sacrifices made by our disabled Veterans,” said Representative Kifowit. “By eliminating the building permit fees for necessary home modifications, we are ensuring that our Veterans can focus on their recovery and quality of life without the added financial stress. I am grateful for the bipartisan support this bill has received, reflecting our shared commitment to supporting those who have served our country.” Senate Bill 2751 amends the Counties Code to provide a building permit fee waiver for Veterans with disabilities and their caregivers when modifications are needed to accommodate the Veteran’s disability. Springfield, Ill - Last week Illinois State Representative Stephanie Kifowit (D-Oswego) successfully advanced a bill designed to protect the historical graves of our nation's Veterans. HB 4934, an initiative stemming from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), seeks to amend the Human Remains Protection Act to provide enhanced protection for those wishing to maintain and preserve our Veterans' graves.
"I am honored to champion HB 4934, a bill that reflects our unwavering commitment to honoring the legacy and sacrifices of our Veterans," stated Representative Kifowit. "As a US Marine Corps Veteran myself, ensuring the dignity and respect of our fallen heroes is a cause close to my heart. This legislation serves as a critical step towards preserving the memory of those who have served our nation." HB 4934 proposes amendments to the Human Remains Protection Act to address the protection and maintenance of graves belonging to Veterans who passed away over 100 years ago. If identified as a Veteran's remains, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will permit Veterans' organizations, such as the VFW, to place markers on these graves. Additionally, in the unfortunate event of damage or destruction to these graves, the Veterans' organization may undertake necessary repairs or replacements after making a good faith effort to contact the next of kin. |
